I
have known several leaders who believe, "The minute I climb up the ladder,
I can do things my way because people will need to hear me." this is often
so dangerous. the reality is that your ultimate success is more likely to
depend upon your ability to create relationships with people.
The
damage which will stem from poor communication is usually irreversible and will
have a consequence like a tense and negative working atmosphere. this might end
in loss of trust and low morale, which may cause good staff leaving. Poor
communication also can end in confusion, resulting in poor task handling and
maybe errors. When this involves clients, it could lead on to lost business and
damaged relationships.
Communicating
With Heart
Remember
you're chatting with People, Not Machines!
The
one cardinal rule that i feel everyone should embrace is what I call
communicating with heart. So often today, office workers rarely rise up and
beat to a colleague's desk to interact in face-to-face communication. Instead,
people are using Skype, Slack and other instant messaging tools to speak .
While these are useful in lecture clients and virtual colleagues, there's
simply no excuse when you're within the same room. But this is often happening
more often now, and once you do that , you miss the chance to really connect
and collaborate. you furthermore may miss out on having the ability to read
other clues that you simply might normally get from visual communication ,
gestures, facial expressions and other things.
Face-to-face
is that the most complete, powerful sort of communication. I wish more people
would stop avoiding it and instead embrace it and make it work for you. There
are numerous opportunities that would come from connecting with another person
.
It's
Not Rocket Science
Working
on being a far better communicator is an ongoing process, but starting thereon doesn't
need to be daunting. It are often as easy as performing on one small thing each
day . to urge you started, here's one among my favourite lists - People Skills
for each Day Of The Week:
Monday:
Smile and be positive. it is so simple, yet, for some, so difficult.
Tuesday:
Use the opposite person's name. When speaking with someone, use their given
name during a casual way. for instance , rather than saying "That's an
excellent idea," try "That's an excellent idea, Bob!"
Wednesday:
Use soft, direct eye contact. Now this is often a difficult one that the
majority people will want to jump , but it's an enormous , positive impact on
the opposite person.
Thursday:
Listen! numerous people love talking about themselves, but a part of powerful
people skills is learning to concentrate actively.
Friday:
Practice makes... an enormous difference (perfection is extremely rare). Get
out there and interact. you'll improve your people skills only by practicing
them, so take opportunities you'd normally pass up.
The
ability to interact, communicate and connect is one among the best joys on this
earth, so enjoy it. And this does not need to be confined to figure alone.
Start a conversation with the taxi driver or the neighbour who just moved in.
With people come opportunities, so just get out there and luxuriate in
connecting together with your fellow humans.
