For those folks who either drive or own vehicles, one among the last things we would like to experience may be a dead battery. But this will easily be avoided.

My family and that i bought our first car in November of 1989, and since then, we've either owned or driven several other vehicles, both gasoline-powered also as diesel-powered. What I'm getting to share works for all.

When you have finished your driving for the day... and please note... this is applicable to new batteries also on those which aren't so new, (two years is taken into account a traditional time for a daily lead/acid battery to figure well), don't just cut the ignition and lock up the vehicle! With the engine still running, cut all the lights, radio and the other electrical appliances: accelerate the engine to a "fast idle" speed which is simply above its normal idle speed, but don't race it. Keep the engine running at this brisk idle for about one minute, then release the accelerator and cut the ignition.

I have found that this significantly improves the state of the battery while it's resting and provides you a quicker start subsequent day. Of course, don't neglect to see your battery cells periodically to make sure that the "plates" are covered with electrolyte, unless it's a maintenance-free battery. If necessary, buy a bottle of "Battery Life" or the other brand of water , which is typically available cheaply from most gas stations, and gently add it to every cell until the dark plates are just covered. don't overfill.

I am currently experimenting with a friend's car which features a maintenance-free battery, then far, that one minute of fast idling leaves it at a high charge... between 12.97 and 13.25 volts once I check next day.

I hope this tiny tip will assist you greatly in maintaining your battery. be happy to go away comments or questions. I'll welcome your feedback here on the location .
